RE: Yamaha SRV 540

I wouldnt count the electrical out, but we had mny SRV's through out the years the one main reacurring problem was the Pipe. the guts would rot out and clog the insides. take your pipe of an shake it, if you hear any thing, you have a problem. it may be as simple as cutting it open and removing what ever is loose in there. I know they are a lot of stupd baffles and dumb little rount plates in there. than in the after muffler the guts in there are junk to. i would just remove that all together if possible.

RE: Cant get clutch off

Do you have the right puller? the newer longer pullers won't work with that old of a clutch. Tighten it with a box end wrench, put a decent amount of torque on it, tap it with a hammer, even a decent sised mini-mall or ball peen hammer. You need that impact from the mettal to metal to break the wedge fit. using a plastic hammer just isn't going to cut it and its going to make things more difficult and confussing. Keep tightening some more and tap it again or at the same time, keep repeating this tell it comes of. it might help to put a little grease on the tip and threads of the puller. dont be scared of it! a lot of guys are but the odds of doing any dammage to the crank are slim. I use a peice of aluminum stock or an old aluminum radius rod to hold the clutch when torquing on it. Good luck! it's realy not as difficult as it seems and as some make it out to be.

RE: front suspension question

I realize they need to be shortend mike, that is not the problem though. with the X-10 shocks the will loose travel because the body is to long. and if I remember right when we use to have them shortened there wasn't but an inch if shock travel left. so a non x-10 shock would work better i believe. I'll know more in a week or so when I start to put the sled to geather.

RE: ISR rule books

not a member of wsa yet and I'm more than likely only going to do 1-3 races, so I cant't see buying a full memmbership. I just don't understand why ISR doesn't have a website, since they govern most of the snowmobile race cucuits out there.

RE: front suspension question

Mike, I might be looking for some 8" front fox shock for the front. I think the stock 10" shock body's might be a littl to long. I have the origional track for that sled wich is it think 5/8" poo track from 95 with the Hooker setup on it from when we raced MRP. If I remember rightfrom Haydays, Timmer has the same track on his sled. He had the Hooker set up but wasn't in use.

RE: front suspension question

thanks guys, Mike back to what you were saying aboiut the sway bar. As i recall. back in 95/96, when we raced MRP, we were told to swich out the (stock)aluminum(sleeve with a steel bar in side)swaybar with a regular one piece torsion bar like most standard sleds have. I think the reasoning was it was to stiff but that was for le-mans racing. I'll have to give timmer a call and get some of these other issuse figured out. Getting excited. been slowlly getting some of the smoll things out of the way so once I get the motor mounted I can really dig into it, Just hope I have it ready for forest lake.

front suspension question

As some of you my have read in the past, I am think about building a 95 xcr sp chassis into a sportsman 600 sled. My question is, do I want to offset my front suspension to the right, by narrowing the left and widening the right side. if so what are some good dementions and what about setting the camber and the sway bar( this sled did come with the aluminum adjustable swabar)? there are also a few things i'm in need of; oval ski's and carbides (stock poo spindals) oval bars race leagal belt gaurd for an Indy chassis some good clutching and gearing idea's for a 44O with a team or a button clutch, I have both to choose from. which is better for ice? thanks guys.

RE: 600 mod/ 800 stock rule

Shawn I know you are just tossing Idea's out there. As is every one else just don't be quick to shoot down others Idea's that's all. I do agree with some of what you are saying but we just need to find the happy medium so we do get it rite the first time. and yes leave the semi pro class alone for now and maybe add a semi pro improved stock (600 mod narrowed more) class in the future for the top semi pro's or make semi pro stock, beginner stock and ad the imp stock to split up the top drivers from the beginners to give new guys a chance at winning and keep them from getting discouraged with the sport as I and other could have easily done.
